Map

1978 or 1979: Tumblers Hill East. Found in fieldwalking for Swaffham bypass.
One flint flake.
Found by Norfolk Archaeological Rescue Group members.
Identified A. Rogerson (NAU).

N.B. 1967. 'Found while building houses on N side new road' at depth of three'.
Chipped flint adze.
Reported by M. J. Smith of KLM in (S1) and noted on (S2).
This cannot be correct for this grid ref as there is no road or houses here.
E. Rose (NAU).

Grid reference in CBA Bulletin is '099 827', presumably for 827 099, but no houses here either.
Information from Ordnance Survey Records (S2).
R. J. Rickett (NLA), 14 August 1990

There is a road further west called Sporle New Road, and at TF 820 999 there is a modern estate called St Guthlacs Close (not to be confused with the field historically known by that name a mile further north!). However the road runs north-to-south and the estate is on the west. It is possible the grid reference was meant to be 821 999, the easting having been read in reverse, and that the compiler meant west rather than north of the road; but this clearly is a long shot.
Compiled by E. Rose (NLA), 18 May 1999.
