Full Description
Pre-1932. Observation.
A mound with a hearth was identified at this location.
See (S1) and (S2).
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
The reference only speaks generally of a member of the public [1]'s pot boiler sites in this area, and does not mention a mound. This must have come from the member of the public [1] himself. The site is now in the garden of 'Spinneybrook'. It was covered with earth during infilling of marshy ground so that the mound is only just visible now. The Dereham Antiquarian Society had previously dug a hole in it, see notes [2]. They reported finding loomweights nearby and that the gravel path running northwest to southeast through the garden was a Roman road to Worthing.
E. Rose (NAU), 22 November 1978.
