Summary

Metal detecting recovered Saxon and medieval metal finds including a medieval shield-shaped harness pendant with red enamel ground. Middle Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval pottery was also found on the surface.

One Ipswich Ware sherd, and Late Saxon and medieval sherds were recorded north of the church.

March 1991. Metal detecting. North-east of pond/pit.
A medieval copper alloy harness pendant, a Late Saxon/early medieval copper alloy bridle cheekpiece with knob terminals, and a medieval copper alloy ring were found while metal detecting. The harness pendant is shield-shaped, with red enamel ground, cross saltire, and two crosslets on each arm (listed in S5). The copper alloy ring has white-metal coating, a loop on the edge and a narrow bar opposite around which there is a broken 'tang' with an incised X.
