Summary

A possibly Bronze Age hearth of burnt flint and charcoal was found on Clark's Acre on Neatherd Moor. Excavation of the feature recovered worked prehistoric flint flakes. The charcoal was identified by the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew as alder or hazel and oak.

Hearth of charcoal and calcined flint found by [1]

10 May 1947. Excavation by [2].
Site of cooking hole found, two or three flakes no pottery.

June 1947.
Charcoal examined by Royal Botanical Gardens Kew 9 June 1947 and identified as Alder (Alrias glutiose) but might be Hazel (Corylus avellena). Other charcoal was Oak.
