NHER 3598 (Monument record) - Earthwork mound of unknown date and multi-period pottery

1931.
Dr. Philip Laver told R. R. Clarke (NCM) that there was a slight mound 61cm (2') high with Roman pottery and tesserae at TF 7055 2180.

Other sites of Laver's from which 'Roman pottery' has been retained, have proved on re-examination to be Thetford Ware and medieval (Material reidentified).

1974.
A. Rogerson (NAU) confirms no mound at Laver's grid reference.

1979.
Grid reference given at top of record is almost certainly the one meant, it is a mound about 10m long, apparently consisting almost of medieval pottery according to A. Rogerson (NAU).
On (S4) it is marked by a dark outline on its west side (it is rectangular in shape) and with a dark square cropmark on top.

July 2026. HER Enhancement: Forestry Commission Project K.
What appears to be two low mounds are captured in recent lidar (S5). The southwestern. One of these is centered at the mapped location of this record.
Former field boundaries and trackways are also visible on aerial photography taken in 2022(S6), including a trackway depiected on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map (S7) which appears to terminate at the mound.
The mapped extent of this record has been expanded to indicate the location of the two low mounds and the record has been tagged for further enhancement.
