Full Description
28 and 30 April 1983: site of discovery of Roman sherds in 1936 (see below). Visited to examine footing trenches dug for new bungalow.
No finds; 20cms sandy topsoil on orange natural sand. No features. Site sits on edge of fairly steep terrace on north side of Nar.

At [3]: Bow and foot of cruciform brooch. Aberg group III. See drawing (S1).
At [4]: Part of bronze lentoid mount with bronze rivets. One edge decorated with continuous scroll, upper face has crouching quadrupeds in style 2 decoration. Gilding survives on parts of both decorations 7th century. See drawing (S2).

Bow and upper part of foot of Early Saxon long brooch, probably cruciform, catch plate partly missing. Break at foot old and apparently smoothed off; break at top of bow more recent. Incised groove. Drawn. Found very close to smallfinds 1 and 2, (S3).

Proximal end flake of pale grey flint whitish patina and some iron staining. Distal tip broken in antiquity. Heavy wear and bruising on right lateral edge, minor retouch on left. Probably from use as knife.
Not dateable, but probably Neolithic.
