Summary

Roman pottery and tiles found on this site suggest the presence of a Roman building, while an overfired post medieval glazed brick may indicate the presence of a kiln in the area. A Neolithic flint implement has also been recovered at this location.

Pre 1974. Casual Find.
An area of Roman pottery and a small patch of tiles has been observed on a gravel hill, overlooking the river.
Marked on (S1) by P. Wade-Martins (NAU).

September 1989. Surface finds.
A flint implement and a fragment of brick were recovered in the vicinity of a brick scatter. The finder did not observe any Roman tile or pottery in the vicinity and metal detecting did not reveal any metal finds.
The recovered items have been identified as:
1.) A bifacial, pointed pick like flint tool, 'fabricator', probably Neolithic.
Identified by J. Wymer (NAU).
2.) A glazed brick fragment, likely post medieval. It was probably overfired near a kiln or a brick kiln lining.
