Summary

Pottery bowl and pear-shaped bottle found in 1929 in the bank of the River Wissey. The bowl is of pre medieval but uncertain date. The bottle resembles 3rd to 4th century Roman pewter jugs and bottles and retains traces of a brownish colour coat.

1929. Found in bank of river Wissey. 1.6 km above Stoke Ferry bridge.
Pear shaped bottle with flat everted rim, slight cordon at base of neck. Hard light grey ware with traces of brownish colour coating 15cm to 18cm high Roman form resembles 3rd to 4th century pewter jugs and bottles and suggests late date. Found with dark grey coarse bowl, both in Cambridge University Museum of Anthropoloy and Ethnography. Published (S1).

Found in bank of River Wissey. [2].
Bowl of height 107cm, diametre of mouth 13cm. Handmade with flat base, bulging sides and slightly thickened lip, coarse rather soft brownish grey ware undecorated. [3]. Unknown date. Cetainly pre-Medieval but might be early Iron Age or Anglo Saxon conceivably Neolithic.
