Map

Pre 1914. Stray Find.
In an article publised in 1914 (S1) J. S. Warburton described having recovered prehistoric worked flints at a site located 200 yards [180m] to the south of Methwold village. On (S2) this site is listed as being on "R. Parrott's land on Brandon Road, west of Glebe House [TL 740 939]. According to (S1) a "few implements" had been recovered by 1914, although two that had been found were of "ancient type". These were described as a "…small Cisbury axe" and an object that was identifed by R. A. Smith as being "strongly suggestive of a hand axe which…is not later than Aurignac". Although these identifications are far from convincing they do suggest that at least one Palaeolithic object had been recovered.

Although (S2) indicates that Warburtons finds were given to the Norwich Castle Museum in 1929, it is not possible to identify this material in the current museum records (possibly NWHCM : 1929.153?). This site is noted on (S3) and in (S4), although no additional information is given.
