Full Description
Around 1923.
W. G. Clarke reported an 'Iron Age floor' in a shallow sandpit on Swannington Common near Upgate.
R. R. Clarke (NCM) investigated 28 December 1934 and found no surviving evidence.
Site visited August 1975 by E. Rose (NAU). - pit gone but a bumpy area survives, with circular earthwork around 1ft (30cm) high, 8ft (2.4m) across - connected with sandpit?
E. Rose (NAU).
September 1996.
Revisited. Earthwork is much worn down now but still visible under permanent pasture. There is a pond nearby but the
circular embankment is not like that found around some ponds. It is an interesting feature.
E. Rose (NLA),16 September 1996.
February 2003.
Whole area very wet. Amorphous earthworks under rough pasture. A few electric fence posts in pasture - possibly grazed.
H. Paterson (A&E), 14 February 2003.
