Summary

A large Bronze Age bowl barrow. An excavation in 1901 revealed a Bronze Age cremation, and prehistoric flint flakes have been found on the site.

August 1901. Excavated by [1] and [2].
Skeleton found in right side with knees drawn up and hands raised to head (mesocephalic) at great depth. A band of charred earth and ash about 15cm (6") wide formed a complete circle about 61cm (2') from the skeleton. Old horseshoe with calkins and bones of domestic animals found above. (S1) describes site as cremation, as in (S2).

Large bowl, flat top, no visible ditch, badly mutilated by 1901 excavation.
27m to 36m (30 to 40 paces) diameter, 0.9m (3ft) high.

No change. Star post on top, barbed wire across one half.

October 2003. Visit. Found in rabbit scrape in 2002. Norfolk NMP site visit.
Unmodified secondary flake, split longitudinally on the left side. Negligible patination, grey flint with thick weathered cortex. Presumably related to the barrow but intrinsically undatable.

Grass covered, one large rabbit burrow and a few smaller ones.
Rabbits will continue to be controlled by gassing and/or ferreting.
