Map

Early 20th century. Stray Finds.
Abbey Farm was one of a number of areas in which W.G. Clarke collected prehistoric artefacts during the early 20th century (his Site 31). Information from (S1). It is not entirely clear why this record was mapped at this precise location and it should be noted that the site is described both on (S1) and in museum records as "Fields on Abbey Farm, Thetford"; suggesting this may have actually been quite an extensive collection area.

The Norwich Castle Museum's main W. G. Clarke collection includes a number of objects from his Abbey Farm site (NWHCM : 1926.32.31). These finds are listed by the museum simply as "Neolithic flint implements". It is recorded in (S2) that the assemblage includes 1 Early Neolithic laurel leaf and 1 long-pointed Neolithic piercer.

The Thetford Museum also holds a number of W. G. Clarkes's Abbey Farm finds:
1 Mesolithic flint blade core (THEHM : 1979.27.8). Described in (S3).
1 Mesolithic/Neolithic (probably the latter) petit tranchet derivative flint arrowhead (THEHM : 1975.294).
Various Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints, including 2 "worked flint flakes", originally recorded as Neolithic triangular knives (THEHM : 1978.280); 2 'horseshoe-shaped' flint scrapers (THEHM : 1978.296; THEHM : 1978.528); 1 end scraper (THEHM : 1978.555); 1 end scraper and 1 miscellaneous scraper (THEHM : 1978.571); 1 large scraper (THEHM : 1978.596); 3 borers (THEHM : 1979.130) and 1 triangular implement and 1 ?fabricator roughout (THEHM : 1979.131).
Information from museum records.
