Stream flows through 19th century Perpendicular style well house with niches, which may have beenused as an icehouse?
E. Rose (NAU)

Access not permitted 1993 as in pheasant breeding area, but 'a student from Cambridge' was stated to have recently prepared a dissertation on it. Structure stated to be kept in excellent repair, except for graffiti dating from military camps in World War II. Very doubtful that this is an icehouse, as there are three other icehouses in park, it is probably just a garden feature built around the holy well.
E. Rose (NLA) 3 February 1993.

Informant [1] states that the structure is a dome shaped flint building with niches for statues supported on brackets; the water flows into a stone basin. Date is probably 19th century. No evidence that it was ever an icehouse; this must have been based upon the shape alone.
No evidence of Perpendicular work either except for the brackets, which are in fact 19th century.
Around exterior informant found worked flints, 1 serrated blade,1 blade, several struck flints, Neolithic or Bronze Age.
See (S1).
Identified E. Rose (NLA) 11 May 1993.
