Summary

Roman pottery fragments and coins are reported to have been found in 1885. The base of a Roman grey pottery jar or bowl was recovered from the same area in 1980.

1885. Weybourne Hope. West of houses.
'Roman pottery found 1855'. Ordnance Survey. No evidence for date.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

Ordnance Survey card states that the date should really be 1885.
Found in altering a drainage channel.
E. Rose (NAU).

However letter from informant [1] states that 'Bolding found coins and pottery on Dary Hill, at bottom of Beck Lane to the west'.
This would indicate this site.
He states this note came from correspondence dated about 1840 to 1870 which he went through in 1970, then in possession of Miss Bowden-Smith.
The letters have since been destroyed, except for a few, but no other information on the material has been found.

Base and lower wall of Roman grey jar or bowl, probably 1st to 2nd century AD.
