Summary

In 1931-32 investigations along the course of an old road surface recovered a variety of pottery sherds from several different archaeological periods. Most of the wares were gritty Iron Age and Bronze Age types.

Found on old road surface in sand dunes west of gap. Coarse potsherds (Iron Age 'B'?) found on old road surface in sand dunes west of gap.
Found under 4ft of blown sand. Mixed on erosion pavement with Roman and medieval sherds - not kept.
Sherd of thick gritty undecorated ware - brown inside, black outside (1.05cm thick) Late Bronze Age? or Iron Age.
Given to NCM (RC site no.22).
Sherd with gritty surface black brown outside. 7mm thick and Iron Age in date. See (S1).
