Summary

An irregular earthwork, probably a medieval enclosure, was noted on 1964 aerial photographs, and medieval pottery fragments were recovered from the area some years later. The site was ploughed out in the 1970s but was still visible from the air in 1996.

Full Description

1964.
South of church. Irregular earthwork noted in field ploughed for first time in living memory. Visible on RAF aerial photographs. Grey sherd picked up just inside earthwork (NCM card).

1969.
Early medieval sherds found; called a moated site in (S1).

Ordnance Survey inspectors in about 1976 report site ploughed out.

Ploughed out earthwork suggests a bank ditch enclosure of irregular shape.
It does not resemble a typical moated site, more likely to be an enclosure.
