Summary

The remains of at least five human burials were found in 1953. The heads of the individuals were oriented towards the west, indicating that they may be Christian burials and have been part of a larger cemetery. A human skull found about 150 metres to the northeast in 1944 and recorded under NHER 7482 may be part of the same cemetery.

Map

1953. Casual Observation
Human remains were discovered while digging about 1000 feet (305m) north of Haveringland Church [1].
The remains were encountered at a depth of three to four feet and represented at least five individuals. The heads were oriented towards the west and they were not associated with any objects. The finder reported that the inhumations had small mounds above them (S1).
Primary information from Norwich Castle Museum record card (S1).
Information repeated in Ordnance Survey (S2) and Norfolk Archaeological Unit (S3) record cards.
H. Hamilton (HES), 12 September 2018.

The orientation of the remains may indicate that they are Christian burials and they may therefore have been part of a larger cemetery but this cannot be confirmed [2].
The remains may be related to a human skull found in 1944 approximately 150 metres to the north-east, which is recorded under NHER 7482.
