Full Description
'Hall - remains of'; Ordnance Survey antiquity on 6 inch map. But Ordnance Survey card says remains are not older than the 18th century.
3 May 1978. Visit. Remains consist of a corner of two walls standing about 2.5m high - perhaps 17th century; connected by buried foundations to a ruined rectangular flint and brick building, 19th century, full of old machinery etetera. Locally these ruins are called 'the old manor house'.
E. Rose (NAU).
November 1979. New house built on this site; NAU asked to be informed of work starting but this was not done. The above ruins were demolished. Council building inspectors and architect state that nothing was seen in the foundation trenches except some rubble associated with the foundations of the ruined building.
E. Rose (NAU).
NARG survey by Mr Dollin 1983 suggests site of Levishaw manor, rebuilt about 1600 by Bishop Jeggon's son Herbert as large mansion, but decayed into farmhouse by mid 18th century. Mrs M. Sewell in 1929 claimed this was this site and that ditches shown on 6 inch Ordnance Survey are a moat, but this is doubtful.
See short report for further details (S1).
E. Rose (NAU), 29 March 1983.
Details in file.
