Summary

Ploughing at this location in 1947 unearthed a large patch of iron slag. The quantity of slag found suggests iron working was taking place on or near the site at some point in the past. The lack of any associated structures or finds does however mean that it is impossible to determine the date of this activity at present. Trial trenching at this site in 2017 revealed no archaeologically significant remains and the only find recovered was a single additional fragment of iron slag, recovered from what was probably a natural feature. It should be noted though be noted that the initial discovery may have lain a little way to the north-east of the area subject to trial trenching.
