Summary

In 1874 a sword with a single edged blade (a seax) and pottery were found. The sword is probably Late Saxon, although the pottery found with it could be Roman.

Scramasax of broad type found with alleged Roman pottery, Merton Hall. 26.7cm (10 1/2 inches) long by 3.18cm (1 1/4 inches) maximum width.
Probably found north of Merton Wood (possibly from one of tumuli on Sparrow Hill?).

[1] notes that the pottery is perhaps Roman. Couldn't be found in 1939. Is the pottery Late Saxon?
