Summary

A mound just south of North Heath was excavated in 1931. No bones were found but a clay spindle whorl of Bronze Age/Iron Age date was found in the centre. A visit to the site in 1976 found no trace of the barrow. It is visible as a slight earthwork, however, on aerial photographs from 1947.

February 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A slight earthwork mound is visible on aerial photographs (S2)-(S3) 90m south of the River Thet, with a possible ring ditch surrounding it.
The mound itself is centred on TM 0000 9337 and measures up to approximately 18.2m in diameter. It is surrounded by a probable ring ditch, which measures up to 3m in width, and 25m in external diameter. It seems likely that this is the mound recorded above (S1), and by the NMR as TM 09 SW 2 (387657). A possible entrance is visible at TM 0002 9337, measuring 3.2m in width, although this may be due to masking of the archaeology.
To the southwest of the mound, another possible linear bank feature is visible, measuring up to 7m by 15m, orientated northeast-southwest.
The mound is no longer visible as an earthwork, and the area covered by a young plantation (S4).
E. Bales (NMP), 12 February 2010.
