Map

1973. Aerial photography.
Cropmark on (S1) recorded by C. J. S. Green (NAU) as 'circular soilmark, light patch surrounded by dark ring - barrow?'.
Checked by E. Rose (NAU), light patch seen but no dark ring.
A. J. Lawson (NAU) notes that on plan in (S2) a barrow is marked very approximately at this site.

March 1978. Visit.
No sign of mound.
A. J. Lawson (NAU), 8 March 1978.

At TF 191 057, another possible site, no earthworks in ploughed fields to west or south, though houses built to north.
E. Rose (NAU).

Plan also seen by E. Rose (NAU) - this is probably the one, plan is not very accurate.
E. Rose (NAU).

1985.
Yet at this spot or very slightly to southwest, (S3) now marks 'Tumulus' with hatched edge as if earthwork surviving.
E. Rose (NAU), 7 November 1985.

19 December 1990. Visit.
Sugar beet just lifted.
On crest of north facing slope, earthworks of mound circa 20m diameter and circa 0.5m high.
Not measured in, but new 1:10,000 Ordnance Survey map (S4) appears to locate this better than plot on 1:10,560.
If site developed, NAU staff should mark out on ground area to be protected.
See (S5).
D. Gurney (NLA), 19 December 1990.

This was done, but planning application was later withdrawn.
E. Rose (NAU).

1991. Survey.
(S6) in file and hanging plan.
Described by (S7) as a much ploughed bowl barrow, maximum height 0.6m, maximum diameter of 29.0m, no trace of a ditch.
R. J. Rickett (NAU), 11 July 1990.

2 July 1996. NLA aerial photography.
Earthwork mound not visible on aerial photographs.
S. Massey (NLA), 23 July 2001.

July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The possible round barrow described above is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S8) in the form of a ring ditch and internal mound.
The mound is centred on TG 1825 0592 and measures approximately 24m in diameter, and the ring ditch measures 42m in external diameter.
They are only visible on one set of photographs, but appear as clear cropmarks on these frames.
E. Bales (NMP), 20 July 2010.

February 2026. HER Enhancement: Forestry Commission Project K.
The low earthwork mound, which may relate to a Bronze Age round barrow (see above) is visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2021 (S9). As the survey was flown relatively recently, it is likely that the feature still survives as an earthwork.
J. Powell (Norfolk County Council Environment Service), 02 February 2026
