Summary

In 1975 a Palaeolithic flint handaxe was recovered from a field near the weir in the river. It may have been redeposited by the river or disturbed by the construction of the weir.

1975. Stray Find.
Found near weir in north bank of river, about 2ft [60cm] below level of field:
1 Palaeolithic pointed S-twisted flint handaxe. See sketch (S1). Possibly redeposited by river, or disturbed during making of weir?

Discovery reported in (S3). This find is also noted on (S4) and in (S5), (S6) and (S7), although no additional information. Incorrectly listed as being from Colney in (S5).
