Summary

Aerial photography in 1946 is reported to have revealed a series of undated cropmarks. These photographs, along with all the others available for this area, were examined as part of the NMP, and whilst it was not possible to identify any cropmarks thought to be archaeological on the 1946 photographs, at least two sets of parallel double ditches are visible on later photographs, along with at least four possible pit features. These features are undated, although the linear features share an alignment with those to the south east (NHER 52060), and may therefore date to the Iron Age to Roman, or medieval to post medieval period.

Aerial photography in 1946 is reported to have revealed a series of undated cropmarks. These photographs (S1), along with all the others available for this area, were examined as part of the NMP, and whilst it was not possible to identify any cropmarks thought to be archaeological on the 1946 photographs, at least two sets of parallel double ditches are visible on later photographs (S2) running from TG 2518 0597 to TG 2519 0579, along with at least four possible pit features, centred on TG 2513 0587. It is difficult to be certain whether these pit features are archaeological nature, however, as a great many geological solution hole features are visible on photographs in this area (S2).

This has resulted in the site being extended to the north-west, from TG 2520 0589 to TG 2518 0597. Several sites with multi-period finds are located in the vicinity, and the linear ditch features appear to be on the same alignment as the possible Iron Age to Roman, or medieval to post medieval features recorded as part of site NHER 52060 approximately 350m to the south east.
E. Bales (NMP), 6 May 2009.
