Summary

A large ovate Palaeolithic flint handaxe was found on the disturbed surface of this former gravel pit in 1972. These former quarry pits are also a possible source for two poorly-provenanced handaxes that are known to have been found at Aldeby during the early 20th century (see NHER 10740).
