Summary

A medieval moat can be seen on old maps and excavations for an extension to a modern house within the feature revealed upcast from the moat but no dateable finds.

Moated site.
(S1) shows moat lacking west side; narrow north and east sides, broader south side with central causeway. A modern house has been constructed inside since map was printed.

24 June 1981.
Foundation trenches dug by builder [1], for extension to house on east. About 1m of deposits over natural clay. Above natural there was about 20cm of old topsoil; then about 40cm of clean chalky boulder clay (presumably original upcast from moat); then about 40cm of topsoil with brick fragments, no apparent stratification. No dateable finds seen.
