NHER 1275 (Monument record) - Roman building, Roman pits and multi-period finds within and around a possible Roman enclosure

Summary

Stray finds, excavations, fieldwalking and metal detecting have led to the discovery of a Roman building, Roman pits and multi-period artefacts within and around a possible Roman enclosure (which is recorded as NHER 27157). Building foundations and pits were uncovered in 1953 and there are reports that at some point a Roman tessellated floor was discovered. Objects collected include fragments of Roman building material, a Roman coin, pieces of Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery and a brooch that was made in the 5th or 6th century AD.

The cropmark enclosure previously listed under this site is now recorded under the number NHER 27157. The two sites are likely to be related, as the enclosure appears to be Roman in style.
