Map

No mapped location recorded.

Pre 1851.
Flat axe.
Flat or flanged copper alloy axes.'Two bronze celts of the simplest form, compared to (S1), flat or flanged engraved with zigzag and short parallel lines.'
See (S2). Mr Charles Lock, 1847.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

Also 'two bronze celts from near Castle Rising', probably the same. Perhaps same as 'celt with engraved lines' of Irish type exhibited to Archaeological Institute of Bristol 1851 by Chester on behalf of Plowright
See (S3) and (S4).
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

The decorated example of the above two has now been identified as NHER 11134. Therefore NHER 3297 relates only to the other one axe.
A. J. Lawson (NAU).

Probably same as flanged axe in NCM 2.22.08 ex Beloe Collection (CANCM no 230).
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

But this is NOT the same, it has been given the separate NHER 17490 as it is obviously a different axe.
A. J. Lawson (NAU), August 1981.

See report on axes from Castle Rising by A. Lawson (NAU) in file. See also NHER 11137 and NHER 17490.
D. Gurney (NLA), 29 December 2000.
