Full Description
This record now includes details of various objects that were found at Catsholme during the 1950s and 1960s. These were all originally reported to have been found in the vicinity of TL 6873 9665 and recorded under NHER 2530. It has subsequently determined that all but one of these objects (a Bronze Age dagger still recorded as NHER 2530) had actually been recovered in this field. They had apparently been found when the field was first ploughed in around 1950. A number of "burnt, heath-like patches" were also observed.
Information from (S1).
P. Watkins (HES)
Around 1950. Stray Find.

This object was subsequently donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1994.12.6), where it was identified as possibly Neolithic and redrawn (S4).
Previously recorded under NHER 2530.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 27 February 2018.

Information from (S8).

Previously recorded under NHER 2530.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 March 2018.

2) Neolithic polished stone axehead. See drawing (S11).
3) Neolithic polished flint chisel. See drawing (S12).
Seen by B. Green (NCM) and T.H. Mck. Clough (NCM), 1969.
Information from (S13).
All three objects were subsequently donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1994.12.3-5).
An examination of the stone axehead suggested that it was made from quartz arenite of uncertain origin (N316). See petrology record card (S14) for further details and additional drawing.
Previously recorded under NHER 2530.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 March 2018.
